  • This is the first time that a rigorous and complete analysis of the dynamics of the open-loop AC/DC converters has been carried out to examine the power factor correction. Previous researches missed an open-loop formal study. For this purpose, a relationship among inductance, capacitance, and parasitic resistances (which were ignored in most previous studies) is established using the singular perturbation technique.
  • It is formally proven in this study that the control objectives (i.e. Power Factor Correction and DC voltage regulation) are successfully accomplished by a systematic theoretical analysis focusing, for the first time, on new techniques such as three-time scale singular perturbation and averaging theory. Previous researches lacked a closed-loop formal analysis.
  • In contrast to many studies that rely on traditional methods (sliding mode, backstepping, passivity, etc.), this paper presents a new control approach based on the multi-time scale singular perturbation technique for performance analysis and control. This technique has recently attracted a lot of interest thanks to the multi-time scale nature of static power converters.

  • The impact of symmetric and asymmetric RES development policies on the potential of exercising market power within MEMs is investigated. Something that to the best of our knowledge has not been investigated in previous studies.
  • The effect of increasing the integration of the markets on market competitiveness in the presence of different policies on RES penetration within MEMs is analyzed.
  • A stochastic multi-objective decomposition method is used in the agent-based simulation framework to analyze the power plants' behavior and markets. The use of a multi-master problem in the agent-based simulation has not yet been performed in the power system.

  • Separating generation resources in form of quick and non-quick-act generation units, based on their speed response in order to make optimal use of their ramping capacity.
  • The optimal design of demand response programs in day-ahead scheduling as flexibility resources in demand side for enhancing system flexibility, including incentive and time-based programs.
  • Using two-stage and tri-level adaptive robust optimization based on the column-and-constraint generation (CCG) decomposition method for mentioned day-ahead scheduling problem, which, due to the existence of optimality primal cuts of the problem type, has a high convergence speed.

  • Incorporation of multi-state output model of RES-based generators in system planning. The multi-state model integrates respective forced outage rates (FOR) of generators as well as climatological parameters.
  • Development of a reliability-constrained planning framework for determination of component sizes.
  • Consideration of different technology combinations and their assessment based on reliability and cost.
  • Consideration of battery storage system(BSS) as an integral component of system planning.
  • Implementation of a highly efficient optimization technique involving parallel processing, Multi-agent based Butterfly PSO (MA-BFPSO) algorithm. The MA-BFPSO not only reduces the computational time but also provides high-quality solutions. To establish the effectiveness of technique, a comparison has been carried out with standard PSO and Butterfly- PSO (BF-PSO).
